Founded in the late 13th century, Dungarpur is as famous for its topography and wildlife as it is for its unique style of architecture. The stretches of fertile alluvial soil are bounded by the Aravalli hills. Two rivers, Mahi and Som, meander through the region.
Places of Interest in Dungarpur
A variety of trees dot the area including teak, mango and date trees. The diverse wildlife consists of the jackal, hyena, Indian fox, porcupine, black faced monkey, partridge, cuckoo, eagle and vulture, among others. The places of interest include Udai Bilas Palace (the royal residence), Juna Mahal (the 13th century edifice with beautiful frescoes and miniature paintings) and Government Archeological Museum.
